Kenya Family Safari

This tour offers the best of Kenya, for a captivating and magical journey through the jewel of East Africa. Rolling golden savannahs, stampedes of antelope, lions roaring in the twilight, Masai warriors tending to their cattle and dense forested areas teeming with bird and rare wildlife. These are just a few images that come to mind when you envision Kenya as your next travel destination with the family. Tickle the velvety soft trunks of elephants at an Elephant Orphanage and admire Rothschild giraffes at the Langatta Giraffe centre in Nairobi before you travel to the peak of Mount Kenya, where we visit the Rhino Sanctuary in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. There is so much more and this will be a vacation of a lifetime for the whole family! Please note that this specific itinerary and departures are family exclusive.

Itinerary:

Day 1: NAIROBI Arriving in the vibrant city of Nairobi, your family will be met and transferred from the International Airport to the joining hotel for a pre departure meeting in the evening with your tour guide and have the chance to meet your fellow travelers.

Day 2: NAIROBI to MOUNT KENYA Begin your Kenyan family adventure at Daphne Sheldrick’s accomplished Elephant Sanctuary. Kenyan born Daphne worked alongside her late husband, David the founding warden of Tsavo National Park, raising and rehabilitating orphaned and misfortunate elephants as well as other species back into the wild.

Day 3: MOUNT KENYA After breakfast we revel in our first safari game drive in the Sweetwater’s Reserve, stopping to visit the Rhino Sanctuary in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which have been instrumental in saving the highly endangered black rhino. We also visit the Chimpanzee sanctuary an ideal opportunity to learn more about these incredible animals.

Day 4: MOUNT KENYA to LAKE NAKURU NP After breakfast we depart for Lake Nakuru, stopping en-route at various Great Rift Valley viewpoints before enjoying lunch on arrival and experiencing our first afternoon game drive in the extraordinary national park. Lake Nakuru is a shallow soda lake, renowned for its huge concentration of flamingos and over 460 species of birds.

Days 5: LAKE NAKURU NP to LAKE NAIVASHA Today we travel to Lake Naivasha; a large freshwater lake being part of the Great Rift Valley and home to an abundance of bird life including the iconic African Fish Eagle and a large population of African hippos.

Days 6: LAKE NAIVASHA In the morning we embark on a boat safari on the lake, cruising along the shimmering surface, searching for hippos and other rare creatures along the lakes edge. The lake is a swamp area of spectacular scenery with good opportunities for game and bird watching.

Days 7: LAKE NAIVASHA to MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE We head south-west to our next destination, the Masai Mara - arguably one of the finest game reserves in Africa. The area is known for its rolling green plains and riverine woodlands.

Days 8: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE A full day is spent exploring the park in both morning and afternoon game drives in the Mara. For those, who would like to experience a truly magnificent view of the panoramic vistas of the park, optional hot air balloon rides are easily booked and travellers are woken early to glimpse the golden dawn breaking over the Savannah plains.

Days 9: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE to MOMBASA In the early morning we set and travel back to Nairobi, passing coffee plantations and bustling village. On arrival at the airport we board a regional flight to Mombasa..

Days 10-12: Mombasa You have the long African day at your leisure to explore enchanting Mombasa. You can spend the day roaming in the city on a guided tour of Mombasa Old town. Marveling at Fort Jesus, the natural deep water harbour of Kilindini and the elaborately carved buildings influenced by Mombasa’s trade culture and Portuguese and Islamic architecture.
