A giant born from fire and ice, this tour lays eyes on Africa’s second highest peak – glacier topped Mount Kenya. This extinct volcano, straddling the equator, offers a mosaic of forest, moorland, rock and ice all crowned by glittering twin peaks. The scared home of the Kikuyu, Meru and Embu people, Mount Kenya offers a unique challenge incorporating majestic landscapes, a unique environment and local culture into this thrilling experience of a lifetime.
Itinerary:
Day 1: NAIROBI TO MOUNT KENYA NATIONAL PARK
Upon arrival at Nairobi International Airport you are met by our representative and transferred to Mount Kenya. Overnight at the Naro Moru River Lodge or similar.
Day 2: JUDMAIER CAMP (3050m)
After breakfast we drive to Sirimon Gate where we have our climb debriefing meeting, then start our ascent strolling through forest and spotting some wildlife along the way. Alpine camping at Judmaier Camp or similar.
Day 3: LIKI NORTH CAMP (3962m)
Following an old 4WD track, we continue our ascent through valleys eyeing unique, local flora along the way. Overnight at Liki Camp North or similar.
Day 4: SHIPTONS CAMP (4267m)
The Mackinder Valley greets us this morning as ridge-hop along the way to our next camp for the evening. Overnight at Shiptons Camp or similar.
Day 5: SHIPTONS CAMP & PILLAR and THE HAT (4267m)
Today is an acclimatization day familiarizing ourselves with the altitude and journey ahead to our highest point on the trek – Lenana Summit. Overnight at Shiptons Camp or similar.
Days 6: MOUNT KENYA BANDAS (3048m)
Summit day! An early start takes us above the snowline to Lenana Summit. On clear days, it is possible to spot Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. After some time exploring the glaciers, we have an easy walk to our next camp. Overnight at Meru Bandas Camp or similar.
Day 7: NARO MORU RIVER LODGE
We continue our descent via the Gorges Valley to Chogoria Park Gate where we are met by our driver and transferred to the hotel. Enjoy a congratulatory rest for the balance of the day. Overnight at the Naro Moru River Lodge or similar.
Day 8: – NARO MORU RIVER LODGE to NAIROBI
After breakfast you will be transferred to Nairobi International Airport (or hotel) for the onward journey.
